Southeastern Football Practice Report – Day 1

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana football team opened up fall camp on Wednesday morning with its first practice on the Strawberry Stadium turf.

For Wednesday’s practice, the Lions were in shells and were split in two groups. The first group practiced at 9 a.m. with the second following at 10:30 a.m. Southeastern will continue to run split practices through the first week of practice.

“What I really liked was the energy our guys came out with on day one,” Southeastern first-year head coach Frank Scelfo said. “In the spring, it took us a little while to adjust to the way we’re doing things now. All our returners came out here today knowing what the expectations were. With that, the pace and the execution were better. It wasn’t flawless, but for day one, it was pretty good.”

Practices being split into two groups benefits both the players and coaches, according to Scelfo.

“As a staff, we’re constantly evaluating our players and splitting the team into two groups eases the evaluation process,” Scelfo commented. “For our players, they have the opportunity to receive more reps and show what they can do. This is their opportunity to show us what they’ve worked on over the summer to improve. Now that we’ve seen where we’re starting, it’s important for us to get better every day.”

The Lions will return to the practice field on Thursday at 9 a.m. Southeastern opens the 2018 season on Aug. 30 with a 7 p.m. contest at ULM.
