In a matchup featuring two of CenLa’s best teams last Friday, it was the Jena Giants that came up big in a 38-22 win over Bunkie to keep their undefeated season alive at 8-0. Leading the way for Jay Roark’s squad was the guy that has helped paced this Giants offense all year long and that is senior running back Zerrick Jones. Jones, who was a Gridiron Football Player of the Week Honorable Mention this week, ran for 245 yards and two touchdowns on 34 carries.

However, it was not just Jones that put an offensive show, but wide receiver Zy Hunter added two touchdowns as well with a 26-yard touchdown reception and a 24-yard rushing touchdown to jumpstart the Giants offense early. The cousin of former Jena legend and LSU receiver Jaray Jenkins showed off his impressive bloodlines with 149 total yards and two touchdowns.

The Giants rattled 24 unanswered points to take a 24-6 lead, but the Bunkie Panthers did not give up as their offensive star junior quarterback Dylan Compton ran for 121 yards and three touchdowns to cut it within two at 24-22, but it was a 73-yard punt return for a touchdown by Demaryion Hammock and Jones’ second rushing touchdown that put the game on ice for the Giants.

Jena continues their special season at 8-0 and will have a chance to push it at 9-0 tonight against Caldwell Parish. Meanwhile, the Bunkie Panthers (7-1), led by Jimmie Hillman, get their first loss of the season, but will look to bounce back against the Bolton Bears tonight.
