McKinley falls to Woodlawn-B.R.

On this brisk Louisiana night, the McKinley Panthers matched up with the Woodlawn-B.R. Panthers for McKinley’s final regular season game. McKinley started the game with possession on their own 26 yard line. After only 3 plays, McKinley was forced to punt. On the ensuing possession, Woodlawn was able to get out of the gates immediately, getting a 57 yard run from Senior running back Amani Givens. Just two plays after getting this large gain, Givens was able to get into the end zone from 20 yards out. Regaining possession, the McKinley offense was looking to get rolling but the stout Woodlawn defensive line was not giving any ground. After forcing a McKinley three and out, the Woodlawn offense was starting from McKinley’s own 36 because of a great punt return from Clayton Adams. Lining up to pass on the first play of the drive, Junior quarterback Rickie Collins floated the ball right over the outstretched hands of safety Rashawn Henry connecting perfectly with Kyle Jones for another Woodlawn Panther touchdown. Already down two scores merely 5 minutes into the first quarter, McKinley elected to start off the drive with a little misdirection to try and gain some positive yardage. However, the play call did not work to McKinley’s favor when Woodlawn safety Dezaray Delmore Jr. jumped an out route securing an interception which he would take to paydirt.

On the ensuing possession, McKinley was able to get some semblance of offense going when a couple completed passes ensured a new set of downs for the Panthers. However, on the next set of downs McKinley was forced to punt. Woodlawn, starting from their own 41, was able to get another pass play to work in their favor, connecting on a 35 yard strike to get their offense within the red zone. Just two plays later, Jaylon Henry was able to punch it into the end zone making the score 28-0 to start the second quarter.

With the game already out of reach after the first quarter, a running clock began. This proved to be a truly one-sided matchup for the rest of the game with Woodlawn-B.R. scoring 5 more touchdowns while McKinley was only able to get 2 more first downs. With the final score reading 62-0 in McKinley’s final regular season game, the Panthers capped off their season with a 1-8 record.
