LSU Racks Up Three SEC Player of The Week Awards After Ole Miss Victory

The SEC took notice of LSU’s 29-26 overtime victory over the Ole Miss Rebels as three Tigers took home SEC Player of the Week Awards.

Garrett Nussmeier, who ended up being the hero of the game with his winning touchdown pass to Kyren Lacy, threw for 337 yards and three touchdowns to secure the SEC Offensive Player of the Week Award. His last two passes ended up being the difference in the game as he threw what would be a game tying touchdown pass to Aaron Anderson in order to set up overtime and then, the game winner to Lacy.

“Though I had struggles in this game, I know I will learn from it, and more importantly, we were able to able to win. I look forward to correcting my mistakes, getting into the film room, and fixing those things. This could be a huge moment for me to take my game to the next level.”

The offense will be remembered on how they were able to finish the game, but consistently, it was the LSU defense that kept the Tigers within striking distance.

Two players on that side of the football ended up with SEC honors with Whit Weeks winning the Defensive Player of the Week and Bradyn Swinson winning the SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week.

Weeks had his best game as a Tiger and was all over the field against the Rebels racking up 18 tackles, two tackles for loss, a forced fumble, and a sack.

“I mean we stayed together. They got it in the plus side of the field I don’t know how many times. We had a bend, don’t break mentality and we were able to get the job done that way. This defense today, I mean I am so proud of us because for years that I have been here now, this is the closest we’ve ever been as a defense. I mean, there was never a doubt in any of our minds we weren’t going to win this ballgame.”

Swinson has been a frequent winner for the SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week now having won the award three times this season. As good as Swinson has been playing, this has arguably been his most impressive performance. He finished with eight tackles, 2.5 TFLs, 2 sacks, and 2 PBUs to highlight one of the best defensive games in a while from the Tigers.

The LSU trio made a difference in the Rebels’ win and deservingly, got some recognition for that.
