LSU Fall Practice #5 Report

For the fifth time this preseason and the second time in front of the media, the LSU Tigers were back on the field getting ready to work for the 2022 season.

Through five days of camp, injuries are starting to occur now more and more as the team goes deeper into their routine.

Once again, we did not see wide receiver Jack Bech and linebacker DeMario Tolan as both are still recovering from their injuries.

The secondary looked thin today with Jarrick Bernard Converse, Damarius McGhee, and Jordan Toles not being able to practice. Sevyn Banks, Mekhi Garner, Gregory Brooks, Joe Foucha, Major Burns, and Jay Ward all took it upon themselves and looked good in drills today.

Besides Bech, some receivers were not practicing either with Chris Hilton Jr. and Jaray Jenkins not being able to take on drills although Hilton did ride a stationary bike today. The receiver position still looks strong with Kayshon Boutte, Malik Nabers, Brian Thomas Jr., and Kyren Lacy running through drills.

The offensive line was a big story today as the players getting the first team reps were Will Campbell at left tackle, Tre’Mond Shorts at left guard, Garrett Dellinger at center, Miles Frazier at right guard, and Anthony Bradford at right tackle. It is a different starting five combination from the first day with Campbell and Shorts being the only ones at their starting spots from the first practice. At center, Fitzgerald West, Charles Turner, and even Marlon Martinez are also getting looks there. Kardell Thomas, at right guard, and Cameron Wire, at right tackle, are still getting a lot of reps. The coaches also wants to see a lot more of Emery Jones as he has impressed throughout camp. It will continue to fluctuate as the mixing and matching is still going on in order to find the best starting five combination.

The quarterback position is still as tight as ever, but the order remained the same with Garrett Nussmeier usually being the first one taking the reps followed by Jayden Daniels, Myles Brennan, and Walker Howard. Like the offensive line, there is still a long way to go to see who that starting signal caller will be.

At running back with the news of Tre Bradford no longer being associated with the team, the running back room looks a little clearer as John Emery Jr. and Noah Cain are getting the most looks for carries while Armoni Goodwin and Josh Williams are right behind them.

Since it was announced that the defensive line will be a 3-4 defense, the defensive linemen getting the reps with the ones are Jaquelin Roy at nose and Ali Gaye along with Maason Smith at the two end spots. That means BJ Ojulari would either be standing up or putting his hand in the dirt.

The linebacker room looks pretty healthy for the most part with the exception of Tolan. Everybody practiced today that is in the linebacking room.

LSU Offensive Coordinator Mike Denbrock was available to the media today as he gave an update on the Tigers quarterback race, his offensive identity, players that have stood out to him so far, and much more! Check it out!
