LSU Cornerbacks Jarrick Bernard-Converse and Mekhi Garner Will Compete In East-West Shrine Bowl

Tomorrow night, former LSU cornerbacks Jarrick Bernard-Converse and Mekhi Garner will compete one final time as college athletes in the East-West Shrine Bowl that will take place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. Kickoff is set for 7:30 CT and will be televised on the NFL Network.

Bernard-Converse and Garner will play against each other as Bernard-Converse will wear #6 representing the West Squad while Garner will wear #22 representing the East Squad.

Both players came in last year through the transfer portal and made an instant impact in the secondary leading the Tigers to a 10-4 mark winning the SEC West in their only season playing for the Tigers.

Coming in from Oklahoma State, Bernard-Converse led the Tigers with 44 tackles and two interceptions with both picks coming against Alabama and Purdue.

Meanwhile, Garner, who came in from UL, brought some physicality at cornerback and led the team in pass breakups with eight while also adding 43 tackles and 1.5 TFLs.

Out of the three main college football All-Star games, the East-West Shrine Bowl is the longest running one dating back to 1925. Most notably, former LSU running back Gary James and cornerback James Britt were named offensive and defensive MVP respectively in the East-West Shrine Bowl Game back in 1986 and 1983.

Both Garner and Bernard-Converse hope to have their name called in the 2023 NFL Draft, which will take place April 27-29 in Kansas City.
