LSU BURNS RICE 42-10

On a night that LSU would send off 18 seniors, the Tigers entered the game as 42 point favorites.  After having their offense seemingly lose its identity after the Georgia game, the Tigers look to bounce back in what should be a high scoring affair for LSU. Coach Ed Orgeron said earlier in the week that the offense would have some different looks that had not been seen before.

The LSU offense got off to a very fast start, they won the coin toss and elected to receive, and right out of the gate drove the ball 79 yards down the field in less than four minutes. Capping off the drive with a score by sophomore running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire from three yards out. Senior tight end Foster Moreau tied his career high receptions of four in the first half.

The Tigers defense was stingy and had a stranglehold on the Owls all night allowing less than 200 yards of total offense for the Owls who came into the game averaging nearly 325 yards of total offense. Unfortunately that offensive production has not been enough for Rice as the Owls have not won a game since August.

LSU scored on every possession it had except for the first drive of quarterback Myles Brennan who did well, “he was a little rusty at first, his first couple of throws were not on the money, but afterward he got the hang of it.” Coach Orgeron said in the post-game press conference. Brennan would lead the Tigers next drive 80 yards in six plays to pay dirt that ended in a three yard touchdown by Lanard Fournette.

Quarterback Joe Burrow had a spectacular night going 20 of 28 for 307 through the air and adding two touchdowns, and senior tight end Foster Moreau ended up breaking his single game career records for catches and yardage. This was a great send off for his last home game in Tigers Stadium.

There was never any question about a Tiger victory, as they were heavily favored in this matchup. The defense continued to do what it has done all season long, while the offense looked like it found its lost identity. The up tempo scheme that Coach Steve Ensminger put together for this game worked out well and if the Tigers can keep up this pace a ten win regular season is not far-fetched at this point. Going forward LSU will savor this victory for 24 hours. By Monday, it’s “tell the truth Monday” and a new week and a new team to prepare for. They will see what they did right, and especially see what they did wrong.
