Louisiana was represented well by both teams in this years Super Bowl.
This year’s Super Bowl Champions, New England Patriots, had three guys who are from Louisiana. Linebacker Barkevious (Keke) Mingo from LSU, Punter Ryan Allen from Louisiana Tech, and Running Back Brandon Bolden from Baton Rouge. Ryan Allen had a huge day as the teams punter, He had four punts for 166 yards averaging 41.5 yards per punt, his longest punt being a 51 yarder, and he had 3 punts fall inside the 20. Former top five pick, Keke, only had two tackles in the Super Bowl.
The Atlanta Falcons had four guys healing from Louisiana. Corner Back Robert Alford from Southeastern, Jalen Collens from LSU, Tyson Jackson from LSU, and Deion Jones from LSU. First Robert Alford had one of the biggest Super Bowl performances for a defensive player. Had the Falcons won the game, he could have been voted MVP with his pick six. Alford had 11 tackles, 1 interception, three pass deflections, and one fumble recovery. Jalen Collens had 11 tackles, and several key stops. Defensive End Tyson Jackson had only one tackle. Rookie Linebacker Deion Jones had a huge day with 9 tackles, 1 forced fumble and 1 pass deflection.
Overall, the game was such a beautiful display of facing inevitable defeat and fighting to come back to win. Love or hate the Patriots, they put on one of the best comebacks in Super Bowl history. They made a 25 point comeback to take the game into the first overtime in Super Bowl history to win with a touchdown on the first drive. The game looked like Matt Ryan and the Falcons could run away with the game after Robert Alford put the first score on the board with an interception for a touchdown.
