Kings Are Back

The Crescent City Kings last season became the first team to play for the National Championship in only their second season. This season, the Kings started the season off 0-3 and things looked like last season was just a fluke. With one of the most impressive turnarounds in the history of the sport, the Kings made the playoffs again for the second strait year with a 5-3 record.

As the lowest seed in the playoffs, they played the number three team in the country in the wildcard round and demolished the once unbeaten Bayou Vipers by a score of 22-12.

The Kings defense once again held its own against one of the leagues top offenses. The defense recorded eight sacks (one for a safety), two interceptions, and two forced fumbles. OLB/DE Shaun Jones was a force in the first half recording two sacks and adding plenty of pressure to the Vipers QB. DT’s Tris Stevens and Mike Gohram also wreaked havoc on the Vipers QB. DT Mike “the Dog Pound” had 23 quarterback hurries in the game. He never allowed the Vipers QB to get settled in the game. The only two scores that the Vipers were able to make were on two break away plays. Outside of those two plays, the Vipers were held in check for most of the game by going three and out.

The Kings Offense is lead by first year QB Corey Kennedy. On several series Kennedy looked as if he is a seasoned QB by making huge plays. Corey has the break away speed you want in a QB to extend the drive, as well as the arm to make defenses pay for stacking the box. The Kings offensive Line played second to no one on Saturday. RB Java Marcell was able to make huge plays while running through gaps made by the punishing O-Line. The play that ended the game was a kick return for a touchdown by Kenneth Dabney.

 

Kings head to Tulsa, Oklahoma on Saturday August 13th to play the number one ranked Oklahoma Thunder. Can they keep their winning streak alive or will the Kings finally fall this week? Here at LGF we feel that the Kings have a more athletic team than the Thunder and will pull out a win this weekend.
