Jena Notches Impressive 28-6 Win Over Tioga in Battle of Cenla Undefeated Teams

In a matchup featuring two of Central Louisiana’s undefeated teams, it was the Jena Giants that came up on top with a decisive 28-6 victory over the previously undefeated Tioga Indians.

The Giants leaned on a great rushing attack led by Zerrick Jones, who had 138 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 16 carries. The two touchdown runs helped give the Giants a two-touchdown cushion at 20-6, and they did not look back from there on out.

The running game was not the only aspect of the offense that worked out for the Giants, but it turned out to be an efficient and balanced offensive game with quarterback Zach Barker accounting for the team’s other two touchdown passes with one going to Zy Hunter and the other going to Brayden Oakes.

While the Giants’ offense did its job, the defense also did theirs by only allowing 144 total yards to the Indians led by Jacob Belcher, who finished with 10 tackles, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.

A couple of weeks after Ja’Corian Norris was on our Gridiron Football Top 10 Player of the Week list, the ball hawking Indians defensive back had his fourth interception for a touchdown this season. The Tioga star also had chances to put his struggling offense back in the game with a couple of returns for touchdowns, but those returns were called back by penalty.

It was a statement win by Jena head coach Jay Roark and the Giants as they march on to a 5-0 record in dominating fashion. The Giants will look to continue their undefeated streak when they host Marksville in its district opener.

Meanwhile, Tioga head coach Kevin Cook and the Indians will look to bounce back as they will face off against the Pine Prairie Panthers in a short week on Thursday.
