Guice, Pocic Claim SEC Weekly Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – LSU sophomore running back Derrius Guice and senior center Ethan Pocic were honored by the conference by earning the SEC’s Offensive Player and Offensive Lineman of the Week awards, respectively.

Coming off of a 42-7 home win over the Missouri Tigers Saturday night, LSU produced a school record for total offense in a conference game with 634 yards, which were also the seventh most total yards in a game in LSU history in the victory.

Guice earned weekly honors by earning his second career start in the contest and carried the ball 17 times to the tune of a career-high 163 yards and three touchdowns against Missouri. He accounted for each of LSU’s first three touchdowns of the game, earning touchdown runs of 42 and 37 yards in the contest. The Baton Rouge native averaged 9.6 yards per carry on his second 100-yard rushing game of the season.

Pocic led the heart of the offensive line that helped the Tigers eat up chunks of yards, as along with Guice helped Darrel Williams also earn a career-high in yards with 131 on 21 carries and three touchdowns. It’s the first time in the modern era that LSU had two running backs earn three touchdowns in the same game as the team rushed for 418 yards, while quarterback Danny Etling passed for 216 yards and hit nine total receivers over the course of the game.

LSU closes out play against SEC East opponents this weekend, traveling to The Swamp to take on the No. 18 Florida Gators at 11 a.m.central time. The game will be televised live on ESPN.
