Patrick Broomfield is a 6’2″ 175 pound cornerback at Clarksdale High School in Clarksdale, Mississippi. Broomfield is an outstanding defensive back that helped his team to a 10-2 record this past season as a Junior. In the 2022 season, Patrick had over 60 tackles, 11 pass break-ups, 3 interceptions, and one interception returned for a touchdown. Broomfield is a three star corner who is already gaining attention from power 5 universities. He shows great size at his position, paired with an impressive 4.5 40-speed. While Broomfield is a very impressive player on the field, he also is serious about his schoolwork as he maintains a 3.7 grade point average. I had the opportunity to interview Patrick about his impressive young career, as well as what we can expect from him in the future:
Q: Tell me about yourself? Where did you grow up and such?
I grew up in Clarksdale, Mississippi – Born and raised here. besides football I also play basketball.
Q: When did you start playing football?
I started playing football when I was around six years old.
Q: What is one of your favorite moments playing football in your career so far?
We had a close game last season that was down to the opponents last offensive drive, I managed to come away with the game sealing interception.
Q: What is one of the biggest challenged you’ve faced playing football, and how did you overcome that?
My freshman season I did not get to play football. I was too small and I was overlooked. That was a challenge for me because I love playing football and I wasn’t able to. I came back my sophomore season bigger and stronger.
Q: What is your favorite part about your position:
I really enjoy shutting receivers down, I also like to come down and make hits. To play corner you also have to be confident and be able to talk noise to the opponent, then back it up.
Q: What is something you have learned from football so far?
You have to be patient in life; wait to take your turn.
Q: Who do you idolize on the football field? Whether it is a current or former player
I really used look up to Jalen Ramsey. Jalen is a big hitter and talks smack but is able to back it up.
Q: Do you have any dream colleges or universities you would like to attend or would like to visit?
So far, I have 14 offers to play football. I would say one university that has not offered, who I would count as a “dream college” of mine would be Auburn. But coming up, I am visiting Ole Miss and Mississippi State and I’m looking forward to it.
Q: Clearly, you have skills that have been noticed as a three-star athlete thus far; What strengths do you believe you have that makes you an impact athlete?
For one, I believe I am a physical cornerback because not all corners like to come down and tackle. I am not just a covering cornerback who can only get a receiver, I like to come down and make the play, get a hard tackle like a linebacker.
Q: How would your teammates describe you?
They would describe me as a leader, hard working, someone who will bring them up no matter what the situation is.
Q: What are you looking forward to this upcoming season, any specific goals for you?
I really would like to win a state championship with my team for my last year. I think that would be very special and memorable.
Q: What is something that you think a coach or a scout of the college level will find in you?
That I am a long, athletic cornerback who is not afraid to make a hit.
Patrick Broomfield is an outstanding cornerback in the class of 2024. This 3-star athlete is everything someone looks for in a cornerback and is able to defend any receiver with his size and speed. Broomfield will be taking the field one last season as a high schooler for Clarksdale High School this upcoming fall. Broomfield will be looking to farther prove he is a top lockdown defender in the state.
