Grambling vs. Arkansas Pine Bluff

Saturday, at the campus of Grambling State University in Northern Louisiana, the Tigers came into the game versus Arkansas Pine Bluff holding a three game winning streak and looking to extend that streak four. The Tigers managed to accomplish that when they dominated UAPB, winning in a solid fashion at 63-39. This win over UAPB was the first Tiger win over Pine Bluff since 2011. Grambling State Head Coach Broderick Fobbs knows the Tigers still have much to improve on. After the Pine Bluff win, Coach Fobbs said, “We have to play with juice, we have to play with energy.”

In the SWAC matchup versus UAPB, Pine Bluff outnumbered the Tigers in total offensive yards, 570-503 GSU. On the other hand, the Tigers outperformed UAPB in creating turnovers and pressuring the quarterback having sacked the UAPB quarterback 8 times and caused 4 turnovers.

Quarterback Jonathan Williams led Grambling State offense. Through the air, Williams was 19-27 for 377 yards with 3 touchdowns and 1 interception. On the ground, the GSU playmaker rushed for 60 yards on 10 attempts with 2 touchdowns. This solid performance by Williams showed his great ability and versatility on the ground and through the air.

This win increases the Grambling State tigers winning streak to 4 games and holds their rank as the number one team in the West Division of the SWAC, an achievement no one would have predicted going into Coach Fobbs first season at GSU. As the Tigers will now be entering into a bye week, this will provide a great opportunity for Coach Fobbs and his staff to work on fundamentals, and the development of the young freshmen for GSU.

The next scheduled game for the Tigers has the them traveling down to Houston, Texas, to take on Texas Southern on November 1stwith kickoff set at 5:30.
