Five LSU Players Get Selected On Third Day Of 2023 NFL Draft

Yesterday, only one LSU player got picked in the 2023 NFL Draft and that was pass rusher BJ Ojulari, who was selected in the second round by the Arizona Cardinals. Day three turned out to be a much better day for the LSU Tigers as five players will continue the legacy of NFLSU. Find out which Tigers were selected and where they ended up going.

Fourth Round:

Seattle Seahawks Select Offensive Lineman Anthony Bradford with 108th overall pick.

The second LSU football player has come off the board and that is former LSU offensive lineman Anthony Bradford as he has been selected by the Seattle Seahawks with the 108th overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft. Bradford was a versatile offensive lineman throughout his LSU career as he has been asked to start 17 games with 10 games being at right guard, five being at left tackle, and two at left guard. The Seahawks have been known to like their LSU offensive linemen as they drafted the likes of Damien Lewis and Ethan Pocic.

Minnesota Vikings Select Defensive Back Jay Ward with 134th overall pick.

LSU defensive back Jay Ward was selected as the 134th overall pick by the Minnesota Vikings. The 6’1, 188 pound defensive back was as versatile as any player in the country at his position as he started at safety, cornerback, and nickel in 46 career games. With 23 starts, Ward was very productive after having 164 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and six interceptions. His best performance came this season when he earned SEC Defensive Player of the Week honors in a win against Mississippi State with 11 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, an interception, and a pass breakup.  He helped the Tigers reach the SEC Championship last season with 60 tackles, four pass breakups, 2.5 tackles for loss, and an interception.

5th Round:

Minnesota Vikings Select Defensive Tackle Jaquelin Roy with 141st overall pick.

The Minnesota Vikings select back-to-back LSU players as with the 141st overall pick, they pick defensive lineman Jaquelin Roy. The former four-star recruit that played his high school football right across the street at U-High and was a Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game invitee. With the Bayou Bengals, the local Baton Rouge product appeared in 35 games and was a full year starter his junior season. Roy decided to forgo his senior season and enter the NFL Draft. Throughout his career, he finished with 97 career tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, and four sacks.

6th Round:

New England Patriots Select Wide Receiver Kayshon Boutte with 187th overall pick.

It was not until the third day of the NFL Draft that LSU wide receiver Kayshon Boutte got the hear his name being called, but he did end up getting picked in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. Although Boutte ended up having a disappointing 2022 season, he showed a lot of flashes why he was so highly regarded coming out of Westgate High School. The former five-star prospect was sensational his freshman season as he had 45 receptions for 735 yards and five touchdowns including a SEC single game record 14 catches for 308 yards and three touchdowns in a win over Ole Miss. His sophomore campaign was off to a great start as he led the Tigers in yards (509) and touchdowns (9), but had to miss the final seven games of the season due to injury. The former #7 ended his LSU career with 131 catches for 1,782 yards and 16 touchdowns before deciding to forgo his final season and enter the NFL Draft.

New York Jets Select Cornerback Jarrick Bernard-Converse with 204th overall pick.

The LSU player that benefited the most from Pro Day was cornerback Jarrick Bernard-Converse. Not being invited to the NFL Combine added fuel to the fire for a great performance and he certainly did by testing well at all of the events including running a 4.40/40 and having a 42″ vertical jump. Those numbers certainly impressed the New York Jets, which drafted him number 204 overall in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Coming to Baton Rouge as a four-year starter from Oklahoma State, Converse made a big impact in his only season at LSU by having 44 tackles, five passes defended and two interceptions including one against the number one overall pick of the draft in Bryce Young from Alabama.
