DITR: Saimone Davis

Saimone Davis is a Class of 2023 Tight End for Nolan Catholic High School in Fort Worth, Texas. At 6’4 245 lbs., Saimone can be seen making leaping catches out of the backfield or laying defenders out on pull plays. Not to mention Davis already has a great build to play football at the collegiate level. Something that separates Saimone from his peers is his relentlessness in his blocking, as he will block until his guy is in the dirt or the whistle is blown. He had such a big impact in his district last season that he won Newcomer of the Year. Saimone is also a beast in the classroom as he currently has a 3.7 GPA.  Going into his senior season, look out for Saimone Davis next year.

Watch Saimone’s highlights HERE.

Why did you choose to play football and when did you start? To be honest, when I first played, I was 8 years old and I played because all my friends played it. As I got older, I liked it more and more, and I realized it was a good way to get free education.

What life skills has football taught you over time? Integrity and honesty, those are my top 2, having good coaches that teach you life skills is really beneficial.

Would you consider yourself a RAC (Run After Catch), Possession, or a go up and get it type of tight end? Honestly, I see myself as all three, I really started working on my route running skills at 7on7’s so I enjoy doing both.

As a tight end, what is your favorite route to run? Why? Just a go route or a fade, because it comes down to who wants it more.

Would you rather have the corner press up, or play off of you? Why? Press, my get off and release is a combination of using my hands and footwork and I can create separation.

You do a great job on staying with your block, how do you do it? Being tall it’s hard to stay low and drive, so I learned to stay low and use my size.

What current or past player, do you think your game mirrors the most? Julio Jones, Gronkowski, or any player that is a beast.

What is your favorite part about playing the tight end position? I would say running out for passes, but when it comes to blocking it is still very important to me.

Does your jersey number (18) hold any significance to you? No, it doesn’t it was only size that fit me.

What advantages do you gain with your build? I would say my blocking, nobody can stop it, once I get my hands on you, you are not going anywhere.

Do you play any sports outside of football? If so, how has that made you a better tight end? I did play basketball; it keeps me in shape for sure and you take a break off the weights to up your speed and stamina.

Outside of sports, do you have any hobbies you like to do? I love playing with my brother and hanging out with family.

In your opinion, what is the best aspect of your game? I can pull really well and hit defenders who aren’t ready for it.

How do you think Covid-19 impacted your sophomore season? It actually helped; with Covid-19 I was able to work out all the time, found the right trainer to get ready for season.

Do you have any goals for your junior season? I want to be more confident in my blocking and my route running.

At the end of the day, who is someone you look up to? Definitely my Grandpa, Mom, and Dad.

Describe a time where you were going through adversity, how did you get through it? Whenever I transferred schools, I wanted to stay instead of thinking about my future and taking care of my family, once I became selfless everything was fine.

Finally, what are colleges going to get out of you? Colleges will get someone who is extremely committed and loyal, and who takes pride in their studies and the program they play for.
