Markeis Batiste is a 6’2, 210-pound class of 2023 DE/LB out of Madison Prep High School in Baton Rouge, LA. Markeis was able to provide tremendous value this season for the Chargers defense setting the edge and dropping RBS and QBS in the backfield. He is an excellent tackler and has a nose from the ball. Another aspect of his tape that stood out were plays he made on special teams. This show’s that he can impact the field not just on defense, but other important areas as well. Markeis boasts a 3.5 GPA and is poised for another great season his senior year.

When did you start playing the game of football?
I started playing when I was 4 for the South Baton Rouge Rams. I practiced every day and my coach motivated me every day to ball hard, play with dedication, and to come with it on my mind. He motivated me to put in my best effort for myself and for my teammates.
What are your biggest strengths on the field?
I feel like I’m a coach on the field. I can read offenses and formations like trips; I know when to pull. I’m good at knowing what will come to my side and just identifying what’s going on.
What are some goals you have for yourself and your team next season?
The first thing I want to do is keep God first. Without him, none of this would even be possible. I want to get better every day in every drill, every rep. I want to accomplish first team-all district and all-metro. I want my whole team to maintain a 3.0 GPA and win games. I want us to win a state title.
How does it feel to make an all-district team and have a huge impact for your team? How can this be used as motivation to improve next season?
It feels great. It came with me putting in a lot of hard work and dedication during the offseason. I couldn’t have done it without support from my teammates and coaches. It just lets me know that the work doesn’t stop. I have to come back stronger harder next year and do even better. I have to keep being a good teammate, leader, and student athlete.
What valuable lessons have you learned from playing the game of football?
It has taught me that life will never be easy. They will always be hard times and challenges. You have to step up, be a man, and don’t fumble. You have to stand on 10 toes and be the best you can be.
Who are some players that you like to watch and study in order to make yourself better?
Tj Watt, Jason Pierre Paul, Demone Clark, Adam Anderson, Bobby Wagner, and Von Miller. They come off the edge explosive. My job is to be explosive and maintain the outside. For inside action, Bobby and Demone both fill gaps, they’re good at identifying pass or run.
