DITR – Makai Chambers

Makai Chambers is a 5’6″, 135 pound, class of 2025 Wide Receiver from Acadiana High School in Lafayette, Louisiana. He has good hands and can throw some mean blocks for his smaller size. I asked Makai if there’s anyone he tries to model his game after, and he told me that Odell Beckham Jr., a receiver known for making uber-athletic plays, is the main one. Makai has been recognized for his performance by John Melvin University in Crowley, Louisiana, who is the first school to officially offer Makai a spot on their football roster. Off the field, Makai has a 3.0 GPA.

I asked Makai some more questions:

Why and at what age did you start playing football?

“I started playing football at the age of around 9. Even though it was flag, it was still very fun. I started playing football because I found that when I’m playing football, it keeps me out of trouble, and I’m occupied most of the time.”

Have you always played your current position, or did you play a different position growing up?

“I haven’t always played Receiver. I played QB, CB,  & LB before playing in high school.”

What sets you apart from everyone else on the field?

“I think my mentality/mindset sets me apart from everyone else on the field.”

What is your favorite accomplishment so far in your football career?

What is your favorite memory playing football so far?

“My favorite memory in football is probably the locker room before and after games. That’ll always be something to remember.”

How do you balance athletics and academics?

“I balance academics and athletics by getting my school work done at school and getting work out on the field, etc., after school.”

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced on the field?

“The biggest challenge I’ve faced on the field is when the guy in front of me isn’t as happy as I am when playing. I’m always having fun on the field so there’s really no challenge.”

How do you stay physically fit outside of football?

“I stay physically fit outside of football my eating what I have to even if it’s something I don’t want to do.”

What are you hoping to achieve in this upcoming season?

“Something I’m hoping to achieve this upcoming season is getting my hands on a ring.”

What is your end goal for your football career?

“My end goal for my football career is to let people know no matter how small you are, you can make anything happen.”

What is the most important lesson you’ve learned playing football?

“The most important lesson I’ve learned playing football is that you’re replaceable.”

How do you prepare for big games?

“I would say I prepare for games by just listening to music.”

Lastly, who is the biggest role model in your life?

“The biggest role model in my life is God, because I’m always making the best decisions I can and I know he guide me through.”
