DITR: FB and Long Snapper, Matthew Pond Covington High School (Covington, LA)

Fullback and long snapper Matthew Pond attends Covington High Schools. Matthew, who is 5’9″ and weighs 180 pounds, has played football for seven seasons, three of which he spent playing high school football. 

Matthew’s most recent season had 5 receptions for 30 yards. The greatest accomplishment for Matthew was getting called up to the varsity team in his sophomore year, at which point he gained the respect of both coaches and classmates. 

Matthew is unique not only because of his athletic abilities but also because of his coach-ability. He is the type of player that pays close attention to what his coaches have to say, taking in their advice and incorporating it into his play. Whether it’s running the ball, playing fullback and blocking, or completing precise long snaps, Matthew is always willing to step up and help the team out.

His readiness to fill any position demonstrates his unwavering dedication to the team’s success. In addition to being a talented player, Matthew Pond is a great asset whose versatility and coach-ability make him a leader for his teammates and a standout on the field.

How did you get started in football, and what inspired you to play the sport?

What inspired me to play football is my dad because he made me watch the sport when I was little and he also played football at Louisiana Tech.

Can you share a memorable moment or game that stands out in your football career so far?

A game that stood out to me was when we beat Northshore by 1 point.

What positions do you enjoy playing the most, and why?

The positions I enjoy playing the most is fullback and long snapper because I’ve been playing the positions for 3 years.

How do you balance schoolwork and football during the season?

I balance school and football during the season by staying on top of my work and give 100% in the classroom and on the field.

What aspects of your game do you feel you have improved upon the most since you started playing?

The aspects of my game that I feel I have improved upon the most since I’ve started playing is understanding the game more.

What are your individual goals for the upcoming football season?

My individual goals for the upcoming football season is to stay consistent on the field and in the classroom during the season.

Are there any professional football players you look up to, and if so, why? 

The two professional football players I look up to is Kyle Uscheck the fullback for the San Francisco 49ers and Blake Ferguson the long snapper for Miami dolphins.
