How long have you been playing football?
Clay: Since 8th grade, I played special teams, and I didn’t start until freshman year. I played offense and defense at Seffner Christian my freshman and sophomore year.
How would you describe your role on the team?
C: My role is to be physical and dominant, keep the pocket clean, and open holes for the running back.
How would your teammates describe you?
C: I’m the country kid. I love hunting and fishing, love lifting. I’m a gym rat, I feel like they would describe me like that.
What would you say is your biggest strength?
C: My versatility or physicality are my biggest strengths. For the versatility, I can play all positions on the line, I’ve never tried playing center but I will try, and physicality is just destroying the guys, making them catch up and bullying them.
What do you need to improve on the most to make sure you’re successful at the next level?
C: Everything needs improving all the time, there is nothing I’m too good at. My focuses are on explosion off the ball, hand placement, and pad level.
Who would you compare yourself to, in college or the NFL?
C: There are a lot of guys, but I try to mold my game off of Tyron Smith and Zach Martin. Tyron Smith is my favorite player.
What is your goal for this season with Carrollwood Day?
C: My personal goal is to be the best I can be. I want to do the best I can, and I’m going to sharpen my skills, getting faster, stronger, more dominant. I want to learn more football and improve my football IQ and show that I’m coachable. My team goals are winning state, grow tighter as a unit, and fight for each other. I want everyone give 100%, doesn’t matter who you are, as long as you give 100% you will be good in my book.
What are you going to bring to the college team that recruits you?
C: I would bring versatility, left side or right side, I can succeed at all positions. I’m very coachable, the coaches have more experience than me so I’m going to listen to them and grow into their offense. I’ll be the hardest worker on team. I want to contribute to team as much as I can and be an asset to them.
