Diamond in the Rough: Logan Diggs

Logan Diggs is a class of 2021 running back from Archbishop Rummel High School in Metairie, La. The 6’ 190 pound athlete could have changed his name to Harry Houdini to describe his 2019 season. When bottled up behind the line of scrimmage, he would put on an incredible escape act and break off a huge run. Diggs has incredible vision and agility, mixed with sledgehammer like pass blocking ability. Think Gale Sayers meets Marshawn Lynch. Diggs rushed for nearly 1,000 yards on the way to the Raiders perfect 13-0 season in 2019. He tells me has a 260 pound bench press, a 270 pound clean, and a 445 pound squat. Diggs currently has a 3.67 GPA

When did you start playing football?

I started playing football, I think I was seven. I played for the Boutte Hurricanes.

Did you play any other sports growing up?

I played basketball, and have played point guard all my life. This was my first year not playing though.

Did you always play running back or did you play any other positions growing up?

I played everything, but I got recruited to play at Rummel as like an all-purpose quarterback. Like a wildcat quarterback. But mostly I’ve played quarterback and running back all my life.

Going back to last season, what were some goals that you wanted to achieve?

To win a state championship, to rush for a thousand, and build my game as best as I can.

I know about the state championship, tell me about the other goals.

I was close to 1,000, I had like nine hundred and sixty something, and I had seven or eight rushing touchdowns.

Going into this season, have you set up any personal goals?

Yes, I want to have over 2500 all-purpose yards, and get another state championship of course.  

Who would you say some of your biggest influences are?

I would say my grandpa. He was such a hard worker, he was so independent, and always on his own. He never really asked anyone for help, he was always a go getter. He was a real tough person.

Who is your favorite NFL player?

My favorite NFL player right now is probably Christian McCaffrey, because he is an all-purpose running back. He can do everything. I think him and Derrick Henry.

What motivates you the most?

I would say my mom. She has sacrificed a lot for me throughout my whole life. So I want to make it, so I can give back to her, and give her a comfortable life.

What do you love about football?

I love the competition. Everybody playing for the same thing, everybody has the same goal. It’s always going to be competitive. I grew up competing, so I am always up for the challenge. Football kind of just took over my life.

What has football taught you about yourself?

Football has taught me a lot. That I am mentally strong, stronger than I used to think I was. It taught me what being a teammate was, what a leader was. It taught me how to win. It taught me to never give up. It taught me that God does everything for a reason, so he put football in my life as a way to make it out.

Speaking of teammates, what would you want your teammates and coaches to say about you at the end of this coming season?

I would want them to say that I’m a great leader and a great person to be around. I was always positive and always lead by example, and not with my mouth.

On a scale of 1-10 what would be your ideal game day performance number?

Well your mindset should always be a 10. You always want to perform to the best of your abilities.

If you weren’t playing football, what sport would you be playing?

Basketball, most definitely.
