Diamond in the Rough: Jamezell Lassiter

Jamezell Lassiter plays for the Lasalle Academy Rams located in Providence, Rhode Island. Jamezell reclassified as a class of 2024 running back. He is 5’8 and weighs about 180 pounds. Last season he went first team all state with only 8 games played due to covid. While he did miss some time on the field, he still had himself a remarkable season. With only 56 carries, he managed to run for about 1000 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also rallied in two interceptions while playing cornerback. Jamezell is a physical downhill running back, who has a powerful stiff arm, and is not afraid to put his head down and make a little contact. Jamezell has unbelievable breakout speed when he hits the secondary. His quickness and agility gives him a chance of making a big play every time the ball is in his hand. He runs 4.47 40 time with a max bench of 275. He currently has offers from Army, Brown, Long Island, Navy, and the University of Rhode Island.

When did you start playing football?

I started playing when I was 5.

What position do you play?

Running back, slot, and safety.

What is your GPA?

My weighted GPA is a 4.0 but unweighted it is a 3.7.

What is your personal goal for this season?

This year I want to have at least 1500 all-purpose yards. Last year I had about 1031 rushing yards with only 8 games played. This year I definitely think I have a chance for 1500.

What is the best aspect of your game?

My versatility, I feel like I can do anything on the field. If coach wants me to go run a fade route I can do it, or if you need me to break a big run I can do it.

What do you love most about football?

I just feel free and I can think about why I am doing this. When I’m on the field and to get me through it, I try to think about something that’s going to drive and motivate me to help me play better.

Do you play any other sports?

I run track as well. This past year I ran the 4×2 relay at nationals and went all state for indoor track. I didn’t want to run outdoor because I had a lot going on with 7 on 7 and it is my last year.

What have you learned about yourself while playing football?

I could say that I’m a natural leader and I can adapt to things pretty fast on the field. I’m always looking for something, and I’m always trying to get better. Like say I run a route, I could feel like I did it right but I’m still going to ask coach , did I do this right or is there anything I can work on for that route.

Is there anyone that you would say you model your game after or study?

I like to watch Ja’marr Chase, Davante Adams, and Alvin Kamara.

Football aside, who you would say is your biggest role model/ or someone you look up to?

My mom. She put in football when I was 5 and I didn’t want to play flag football, so she just took this leap of faith and put me in tackle. My dad wasn’t really around, so nobody really taught me how to play. She was always putting me in different types of things just to keep me active, and made sure I was good regardless of the situation we were in.
