Diamond In The Rough: Jake St. Andre

Jake St. Andre is a class of 2021 6’1″ 218 pound linebacker out of Haughton High School in Haughton, Louisiana. He is a 4 star rated at an 8.3. This is due to him being an excellent linebacker that plays sideline to sideline. St. Andre stays in the opponent’s backfield and has an exceptional tackling ability. In his Junior season, he had 145 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, and 5 sacks. He has been First Team All-District, First Team All-City, and First Team All-Parish. He takes pride in his schoolwork as well as he has a 26 on his ACT and a 3.8 GPA. He is also on the basketball team and involved in BETA, Red Jackets, and FCA at Haughton High.

When did you start playing football and was there anything specific that motivated you to play?

I began playing close to seven or eight. I just always wanted to play because my brother played. My family always played so it’s something I grew up wanting to do.

Do you play any other sports at Haughton and how you feel they help you on the football field?

Yes, I am also a power forward on our basketball team. It helps with my footwork, moving up and down the court. It helps with my overall athleticism.

What hobbies do you have outside of sports?

I like to hunt and fish a lot.

What’s your favorite thing about being a linebacker?

Being in the middle of the defense! I’m kind of the leader on that side of the ball. Being in the middle of everything is my favorite thing.

What are some goals you have for this season?

One goal would be to win a District Championship. Another would be to break the career tackles for Haughton.

What’s been the highlight of your football career?

Probably this past season when we made a run at State Semifinals. It was an awesome experience just making it that far.

How do you think coaches and teammates would describe you as a player?

Hopefully they would say I am a tough, hardworking player. I’m a guy who studies film all the time and is always aware of what’s going on. They would also say I am just an overall leader.

What type of things did you do this offseason to keep yourself in shape?

I’ve been lifting, running, and doing drills. I’ve just been staying ready for the near future.

What has football taught you about yourself or life?

It’s taught me how to lead a group of guys. It’s also showed me that hard work pays off.

What’s your favorite thing about playing football in Louisiana?

I would say the competition is the best. Louisiana is known for being a big time football state. The athletes are the best.

What would you bring to a college team and what are you looking for out of one?

I’d bring a hardworking mindset and mentality. I’m looking for a place with a home environment and a place that is setting me up to succeed.

What would you say are some of your strengths on the football field?

Definitely my instincts! I have a great ability to get down the field and make tackles.

Three words to describe yourself are?

Smart, energetic, and hardworking.

How do you prepare for an upcoming game?

I watch a lot of film to try and break down as much as possible to see what the other team will run.

How do you handle wins and losses?

I always thinks it best to look back at the game the next day to see what went well and what went wrong. After a game, I think at all about moving forward and looking a week ahead. I just try to prepare and see what I can do right and wrong for the following week.

Have you thought about what you’d like to major in in college?

I’m leaning towards Kinesiology and going into Physical Therapy.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Hopefully, I am graduating college and going into Physical Therapy.
