D.I.T.R: Savoy Guidry

Our newest D.I.T.R. is Class of 2027 athlete Savoy Guidry. Savoy is a 5’10” 156 hybrid defensive back for his team in the Holy Cross High School Crusaders. At his hybrid position, Guidry lines up at cornerback and free safety. Savoy also competes in 7-on-7 tournaments with his team the Camp Hardy Bootleggers. On the field, Savoy uses his technique and quick footwork to stay with receivers in order to make plays. He prides himself on his hardworking abilities and has a true love for the grind. These skills make Savoy Guidry a player for coaches to keep on their radar in the next couples of season.

I was fortunate enough to speak with Savoy and gain some more insight into his athletic career and life.

When did you start playing football and why did you start playing?

“I started playing football in sixth grade but I didn’t fall in love with it till seventh grade. I started playing to just be more active but then I really started training which got me hooked.”

What aspect of the game made you fall in love with the sport?

“I enjoy the training but being apart of a team and making memories is the best part.”

Do you play any other sports?

“The other sport I play besides football is track. I run the 100 and 4×2.”

Who do you look up to as a role model?

“I look up to a lot of the guys that I train with right now. They are the best players from all around New Orleans that I really look up to them. I also look up to my coaches Robby Green and Corey Hardy. They have helped me with my journey in football. Most of all tho I look up to my Dad.”

Is there a college or professional player that you try to model your game after?

“I try and model my game after Jalen Ramsey, Trevon DIggs and Marshon Lattimore. I watch their film and try and take aspects from each of their games.”

What have you learned about yourself from playing football?

“I’ve learned that I’m very hard working. I used to be lazy but once I started to see what I’m capable of I really change my attitude. with trusting the process. Even if I’m just getting 1% better every day.”

What sets you apart from the other players at your position?

“I would say my footwork and technique set me apart. I’m not the fastest guy but I can stay with receivers due to those two things. I also hold myself to high standards, I always believe I’m the best guy on the field.”

What school subject is the most appealing to you and why?

“Science and religion arte my two favorite subjects. I think learning about space is interesting so that really draws me to science. I enjoy religion because it’s interesting how everyone has their own beliefs and it’s cool to know how everything came to be.”

What goals have you set for yourself this upcoming season?

“I want to get bigger and faster right now. I also want to prove myself to my coaches that I’m ready to be on the big stage. Most of all I want to keep working hard and improve my mental and physical game.”

What is something you are working on improving in practice?

“I’m working on my speed and my ability to track the ball in the air. Those are my two biggest faults but i’m just trusting the process. I’ve been working on my speed at DBT NOLA and that has given me major improvements with my speed through core and leg training.”

What kind of qualities do you believe a leader should have?

“A good leader should be respectful and uplifting towards his teammates. You should have patients when correcting your teammates.”

What have you learned about teamwork from your past experiences on your teams?

“You can’t win a game without working together. My team is full of great athletes right now but we aren’t gonna be able to win with just those guys, we work as a team to be successful. If we all do our individual job then we can win.”

What is your favorite moment from your career so far?

“My favorite moments are times when I’m hanging out with my teammates. Sometimes we go and eat at restaurants after our games and I really enjoy those times.”

What do you see yourself accomplishing after high school?

“I want to play college ball but I also have interest in become a trainer in the future. I really look up to our trainers and I want to help people in the future like how our trainers help us.”

What are some hobbies you like to do in your free time?

“I like to play the game, workout and I also enjoy collecting clothes so you could say fashion as well.”
