D.I.T.R: Jake Vaughan

Jake Vaughan was a standout athlete from the Gridiron Football Elite Camp that was hosted in Jonesboro, LA at Jonesboro-Hodge High School. Jake play QB and also LB for his high school Holy Savior Menard in Alexandria, LA. Jake is 6’0″ 170lbs multisport athlete in the class of 2026. He posted a 5.09 second 40 yard dash, 4.59 3 cone shuttle as well as a 8’4″ broad jump. Jakes arm talent paired with his ability to create a play make his a player for coaches to keep on their radar the next couple of years.

I was fortunate enough to get the chance to speak with Jake about his football ideals and career aspects.

When did you start playing football and why did you start playing?

“I started playing in 5th grade but I have always played in the backyard with my friends, which is what made me start playing.”

What aspect of the game made you fall in love with the sport?

“I really enjoy the competitiveness in football but playing quarterback and the leadership that comes with that is what I really love.”

Do you play any other sports?

“I do track and field and golf also. In track I throw the javelin and I threw it 151.5 ft in my last meet to win 1st place.”

Who do you look up to as a role model?

“I look up to my parents because they set a great example for me in life and I want to follow in their footsteps.”

Is there a college or professional player that you try to model your game after?

“I like to model my after Joe Burrow, I feel like im a playmaker that can create a play on the fly like him.”

What have you learned about yourself from playing football?

“I’ve learned that in hard times you have to persevere through tough times to be successful.”

What sets you apart from the other players at your position?

“I feel like my ball placement and accuracy as well as my throw power sets me apart from other players. I feel like I have a strong arm for someone in my age group and position group.”

Who motivates you to get better every day?

“I would have to say my parents because they drive me in my academics and just make me better as a person in general. My strength coach Don Fields motivates me as well.”

What goals have you set for yourself this upcoming season?

“This upcoming season I want to make it to the semi-finals and throw for over 1,000 yards this season.”

What is something you are working on improving in practice?

“Im working on my speed and strength this off season.”

What have you learned about teamwork from your past experiences on your teams?

“I’ve learned that it’s a fun way to become close with the guys and just hang out.”

What is your favorite moment from your career so far?

“In my 1st start when I handed to ball off the my running back for a game sealing touchdown.”

What do you see yourself accomplishing after high school?

“After highschool I feel like I can make it to the college level. Hopefully after that I make it to the league but if not I want to pursue business.”

What are some hobbies you like to do in your free time?

“I love to fish and play golf.”

What kind of qualities do you believe a leader should have?

“I think a leader should have a hard work ethic as well as being stern but helpful to others.”
