It’s a rainy Wednesday afternoon, typical for Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I was getting ready to watch practice at Belaire High School, and the cars on the highway were down to 20 mph due to the rain. In these conditions, having practice outside isn’t possible, so creative solutions have to be arranged to have practice. Head Coach Byron Wade had one ready though, offensive and defensive walkthroughs in the gym to prepare for this weeks game against Scotlandville in the East Baton Rouge Jamboree. This is Beyond Belaire: Week 2.
The Belaire Bengals had a scrimmage against Thrive Academy on Thursday of last week, and I was able to watch all of it. The team looked well coached and talented, but there were issues with penalties and more. For more about last week’s scrimmage, this week’s game, and more with Head Coach Byron Wade, here is a new episode of Coaches Corner:
Weekly Standout: Senior Running Back Denichlass Jeter tore up the Thrive defense during the scrimmage. On Belaire’s first offensive drive, Jeter broke off a 30 yard rush and then a 20 yard rush on the first 2 plays. He ended up racking up 84 yard on 5 rushes during the scrimmage, and he’s going to be using his 4.5 speed all season as a weapon for Belaire.
Next Game: vs. Scotlandville (Baton Rouge, LA) at Scotlandville High School on Friday, August 27th, at 8pm, as part of the East Baton Rouge Kickoff Jamboree. Go out and support Belaire, and catch some good Louisiana high school football!
