Friday Night and Monday Afternoon brought about different feelings in atmosphere at Belaire High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Friday Night was somber after a loss, with all 16 seniors playing their final high school game, and, for some of them, their last football game ever. Monday was a different story. A sense of pride filled the hallways as I walked to film the final Coaches Corner of the season, as seen below. The best season in Belaire history, their first home playoff game in this century, and a team that was tied after the first quarter of the District 7-4a Championship were all reasons for this pride.
Before I give a final paragraph for this football season, I want to recognize the All-District Players from Belaire. All of these guys had awesome seasons.
1st Team All-District 7-4a: Senior DL Myron Williams, Junior LB Jayden Butler, Junior ATH Cameron Johnson, along with Gridiron Football All-Star Game Invitees Senior WR Noah James and Senior ATH Denichlass Jeter, who was named Defensive MVP
2nd Team All-District 7-4a: Senior RB Makih Palmer, Sophomore OL Kedrick McDaniels, and Gridiron Football All-Star Game Invitee Senior DB Avante Givens
Honorable Mentions: Senior OL/DL Christian Tolliver, Senior LB Jekeydrick Richard, DL Christian Hill
I’m grateful for the entire Belaire community for taking me in and making me feel like family. I never truly understood the allure of high school football until after I got my whole season with Belaire, and I don’t know if I can ever go back to being without it. I’m thankful to the entire Belaire coaching staff and team, with a special thank you to Head Coach Byron Wade for taking time out every week to meet with me and talk football. Finally, thank you to all the readers. You all allow me to do what I do every day, and I’m so thankful. I’m looking forward to my next projects here at Gridiron Football, and I hope you all are too.
