Alexandria Defeats East Ascension, 21-14

On Friday, the Alexandria High School Trojans came to Gonzales for a matchup with the East Ascension High School Spartans. The game started off slow, with several turnover-on-down situations for both teams. EAHS kicked off the scoring with a touchdown pass from sophomore Hudson Browning that connected with senior Jacorey Mitchell for a roughly 30 yard touchdown. Just a minute later, Alexandria answered with a touchdown of their own, as JT Lindsey found the endzone with a 5-yard score on the ground.

The score remained 7-7 going into halftime, and on the first play of scrimmage, Browning found senior Brennon Thompson for a 70-yard score. That was the final time the Spartans would add points, as the offense was unable to push the ball down the field, and some poor special teams allowed Alexandria to start with excellent field position.

Both teams were able to stop drives with interceptions in the second half. Late in the third quarter, Alexandria was able to score on a long double-pass and tie the game at 14-14, heading into the fourth quarter. After the Browning interception, the Spartans were able to make a goal-line stand. After a bad punt, Alexandria was given a short field to conquer and was able to punch it in one final time to take a 21-14 lead, and that’s how the game finished. The final score was on a roughly 30-yard breakaway carry by Lindsey, and that sealed the game. EAHS wasn’t able to muster anything on offense in response, and after gaining one more first down after receiving the ball back, Alexandria was able to kneel it out and leave with a close but deserving victory.

Jimmie Duncan was one solid player for Alexandria. He caught several balls and helped put Alexandria into position to score every time. One player for East Ascension that deserves a mention is Brysten Martinez. He didn’t allow much pressure from the left side. Martinez is ranked 37th in the country and the 7th best offensive tackle nationally in the class of 2026.
