Adeyemi-Berglund Claims Southland Player of the Week Honors

HAMMOND, La. – After helping the Southeastern Louisiana football team to a 23-6 victory over No. 11/12 McNeese, Lion linebacker Isaac Adeyemi-Berglund was named the Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week in an announcement from the league office on Monday.

Adeyemi-Berglund, a native of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, is the fourth Lion to receive weekly honors from the Southland Conference, joining linebacker Tamarcus Russell (Sept. 24, Defensive), wide receiver/kick returner Juwan Petit-Frere (Sept. 24, Special Teams) and punter Ivy Wall (Sept. 17, Special Teams).

Adeyemi-Berglund played a large role in a dominant SLU defensive effort that fueled the Lions’ first victory over a ranked opponent this season. Southeastern held the Cowboys to just 187 total yards – the fewest yielded by SLU since 2014. Adeyemi-Berglund had two of the Lions’ five sacks, finishing with eight tackles and four tackles for loss.

The Lion linebacker has enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2018. He is 11th in the Southland with a team-high six sacks, while ranking 12th in the league and second on the team with 10.5 tackles for loss.

Southeastern will have a bye this weekend before closing out the 2018 season at Nicholls on Thursday, Nov. 15 in Thibodaux. Kickoff for the 2018 River Bell Classic is set for 6 p.m.

Fans can hear the Nov. 15 game on the Southeastern Sports Radio Network (KSLU-FM (90.9), Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM and WFPR 1400 AM). Fans can also listen live at www.LionSports.net/listenlive and via the Radio FX, TuneIn Radio and Lions Gameday Experience apps. Television details will be released by the Southland Conference later today.
