Gridiron Top 300: Hunter Clegg

Hunter Clegg is a 6’4” 235-pound 4⭐ Edge-Rusher from American Fork High School in American Fork, Utah. He is the #3 ranked overall recruit from the state of Utah and the #17 Edge-Rusher in the country from the class of 2023. Clegg is committed to Stanford University to continue his football and academic careers.

Clegg is a very physical pass rusher that finishes plays just as aggressively as he gets up the field. He has a very high motor when it comes to getting off blocks, as well as firing off the ball, and that has a lot to do with the intensity that the highly regarded defensive end plays with.

Do you have any goals for the rest of 2022? Finish the season strong, get a 4.0 GPA, and to keep my foot on the gas with my development after the season ends.

What is your biggest strength as a football player? My biggest strength as a football player is my leadership and my effort.

What makes you different than every other recruit in the country?  What makes me different is my combination of athleticism, effort, hard work, and academics.

What is your proudest achievement in football? My proudest achievement in football is beating our rivals with my teammates.

What is an example of you overcoming adversity as an athlete? An example of me overcoming adversity is when I struggled with low back pain for the first half of the season, but working hard on my body and recover while also making sure I could play in the games and give my best effort.

If you had to compare yourself to a college of a professional player, Who would it be? Why?  If I had to compare myself to a player in the NFL I’d say TJ watt because he’s so relentless.

What is something you are looking for in a college program during your recruitment?  I’m looking for a place where I feel comfortable and where I can thrive as a player, person, and scholar.

What’s your favorite football memory? My favorite football memory is beating our rivals for our homecoming game.

What is something you would want college coaches to know about you?  I want them to know that I love the challenge, my teammates, and the process.

Who is someone you look up to off the football field?  My dad because he’s a Great man and a great mentor.

What role do you play as a leader on the team? I’m a captain on my team. I always try to teach younger teammates, give a good example on and off the field, and bring energy to every game and practice
